Rice County residents whose property was damaged during the April 13 storm are reminded to beware of unscrupulous individuals posing as contractors. Several residents reported being contacted by potential contractors minutes after the hail stopped falling.
On Monday, Rice County Emergency Management officials reported plowable hail up to 3” in diameter that covered roadways and lawns.
Both Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas and County Attorney Brian Mortenson urge residents who know or suspect they have storm-related damage to do their research to ensure the person wanting to make repairs is legitimate before signing a contract or making a payment. Do that by asking for referrals from trusted community members who have used that person/company’s services or by checking with BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota at www.bbb.org/local-bbb/bbb-of-minnesota-and-north-dakota.
“Truly reputable companies will want you to speak with satisfied customers in the community,” said Mortenson.
