Duane Lester Berg, “Dewey”, 88, of Wanamingo, passed on December 13, 2022, at Traditions II of Owatonna.

Dewey was born January 6, 1934, in Pine Island Township to Melvin and Luella (Hjortaas) Berg. After Dewey graduated from high school, he met and was united in marriage to the love of his life, Alice Kispert on October 15, 1955, and raised four children in Wanamingo, MN.

Dewey was very involved in his community, whether it was serving with the Wanamingo Fire Department, the Lions Club or teaching firearm safety at the Wanamingo Sportsman’s Club. He also organized the annual Fourth of July parade for over 30 years. Dewey was an avid golfer and had a love for all Norwegian food. He spent his career in the lumber and home construction business, first as the manager at the Wanamingo Lumber yard and then with UBC for 23 years before he retired in 2006. He had a passion for woodworking, making squirrel feeders, wishing wells and plaques with Jesus on them. Dewey not only worked on small projects but also could be found helping family and others with their construction or remodeling. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo and was a faithful servant of Christ. Dewey enjoyed watching all the Minnesota professional teams, but nothing could hold a candle to the pride he felt when he watched all the activities of his grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in Dewey’s life and his wife, Alice was his companion for life. Dewey and Alice were known at the local Dairy Queen as “2 spoons”, as they would always share their favorite treat. Dewey was known for his patience, his hugs and his big smile. He will be missed.

Dewey is survived by his children, Beverly (Steve) Wolf, Jill (Reed) Kvittem, James (Debra) Berg; grandchildren, Nicole Donlon, Michelle Winter, Tara Hogy, Taylor Kvittem, Brett Kvittem, AmandaJo Edel, Tia Minter, Ashley Urevig, Bailey Berg, Alivia Berg; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Sue) Berg; sisters, Eileen Anderson, Lila (Wally) Johnson, Donna (Ron) Amundson and Judy (Craig) Gruden and many nieces and nephews.
