First half property tax payment deadline approaching

Posted

Rice County first half property taxes for real/personal property are due Friday, May 15, 2026.

Payments can be made in person via cash, check or money order at the Property Tax & Elections Office in the Rice County Government Services Building or mailed to the Rice County Property Tax & Elections Office, Rice County Government Services Building, 320 Third St. NW, Faribault MN 55021.

Property owners should note that the U.S. Postal Service has adjusted its operations so mail is not postmarked on the same day as it’s deposited into a mailbox. That means your payment could be considered late if you don’t mail it far enough in advance.

To avoid this:

· Mail payments several days before they are due.

· Bring your payment to the Post Office and ask for a manual postmark.

· Pay online using information found on the Pay Property Taxes page on the Rice County website, www.ricecountymn.gov, or by phone at 877-690-3729 and using 3321 for the jurisdiction code.

Paying from a checking or savings account carries no additional fee. Credit card payments carry a third-party convenience fee of 2.4% of the tax amount with a minimum $2 charge. Visa debit card payments carry a flat fee of $4.
