Free Fix-it clinics put reduce, reuse, recycle into action

Posted

Handy volunteers will be at the ready at two upcoming Fix-It Clinics designed to help residents needing assistance with small repairs while keeping waste from the landfill.

Both events are free and sponsored by Rice County Environmental Services.

Upcoming clinics are as follows:

• Saturday, Aug. 29 from 2-5 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 5785 Lonsdale Boulevard E, Northfield

• Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Buckham Memorial Library, 11 Division St. E, Faribault.

Fix-It Clinics offer free, guided assistance from volunteers with the skills to disassemble, troubleshoot and (hopefully) fix small household appliances, clothing, electronics, mobile devices and more.

Items are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants may bring up to two items that need fixing or mending along with any tools or parts that might be helpful in the repair. All items must be clean.

Items commonly brought to clinics:

Clothing or other textiles
Small electric devices (lamps, clocks, radios, hair dryers)
Countertop appliances (toasters, air fryers, coffee makers, blenders)
Toys
Vacuums
Jewelry
Items requiring minor carpentry repairs
