As the summer is winding down and the gardens are filling up, look no further than the Merton Town Hall at 4422 NE 60th Street in Medford, home of the outlet mall!
This Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm, please join in the fun as several local vendors get together and sell the produce they have so lovingly tended all season. Rain or shine, they will gather to show you what they have been growing this year, through all the rain and heat.
I think every gardener has had their share of trials and tribulations this year. With the excess moisture, more damping off has plagued our more delicate produce, and the bugs this year have been abundant, and hungry! Powdery mildew and blight were rampant in many areas. Many of the crops we normally grow, didn't! But every gardener in different areas had different issues, so coming to this sale, you may find things that grew in someone else's fields that may not have prospered in yours.Fruits and vegetables of all kinds will be for sale, and there will be animals to pet, too. You can talk to the people who grow your food, and forge a bond between your growers and your family.
In this day and age, it seems that people have lost touch with local products in favor of convenience, but I say there is something special about knowing where your food comes from, and teaching your kids the same. So, come on over and meet the farmers who feed you, and get the rest of your back to school shopping done at the same time! And yeah, tell them Cheri sent you!
