The Kenyon-Wanamingo school board approved hiring Beth Giese as the new superintendent and elementary school principal at the April school board meeting. The school board had interviewed five candidates for the position before narrowing down the search between Giese and Joel Whitehurst, longtime WEM superintendent.

Giese was a high school special education teacher at Kasson-Mantorville school district before serving as an elementary teacher and principal at Cannon Falls school district. She held the position as superintendent at St. Francis and was most recently was employed with the Minnesota Department of Education.

The K-W school district hired Giese for a one-year contract at about $70,000 less that the current superintendent. The financial position of the Kenyon-Wanamingo school district necessitated a cost savings in filling the position while they work through the fiscal financial problems at hand.

Giese and her husband have three grown children and were originally from the Goodhue County area. She looks forward to being back in the southern Minnesota community.
