Shop Til You Drop!

Carole Timbeross has taken on the challenge of opening a retail store in Wanamingo, and you have got to come on down and check it out. A delightful combination of new retail, gently used items and handmade crafts for your perusal! Former co-owner of Flamingo Chix in Wanamingo, she is at it again, bringing together products that are currently unavailable locally, building upon things that people want and need, and showcasing local talent in so many ways. Allianda gift & thrift has something for everyone, whether to give as a gift or to keep and take home! Located at 104 Main Street in Wanamingo, or on Facebook and Instagram, you can also get ahold of her at shopallianda@gmail.com, or text her at (507) 824-2928.

I asked her what prompted her to do such a thing, since she already has a full time job and other responsibilities. She replied," I have always enjoyed retail for the people factor. People who shop in gift stores and thrift shops may not just be in a hurry to buy and run, but like to look around in a leisurely fashion, and actually see all that I have to offer. I enjoy visiting with customers, and getting to know them, and get ideas for what they are looking for."

Inside, you will find a light and airy space that you can move through easily. It is handicap accessible, and you don't have to worry about bumping into things and knocking them off the tables and shelves. There is a wide variety of items to browse through, and many local artists consign their wares. Just a few of the local products I saw were Nancy Ellison's new book about growing up in this area, Dee Kohr's Dammit Dolls and Yip Yips, and Patrice Marvin's artwork. It's about supporting our local talent, and getting something you won't get anywhere else! Of course she has new handmade items on the way, such as handmade soaps and candles, and I am sure more to come! This store has a philosophy of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle, so she is open to selling your items on consignment, or taking donated items you just don't need anymore, but are still usable and fun. If you want to bring things you have to the store, text her to make an appointment so she can go through your treasures with you and decide what will work with her vision.

While I was interviewing Carole, Harriet Peterson came in to look around and see the new store in person. I asked her what she thought of the space, and she said,"Oh my gosh, there are so many fun things to see! Such a variety, and you have greeting cards, too!" Carole replied that she had been doing her due diligence, going around town and asking what townspeople wanted to see in the store, and greeting cards was high on the list.

Carole shared with me one of the upcoming ideas she has to brighten our long winter, "Wednesday Wanamingle". It will be starting in January, and one Wednesday a month she will host an evening of fun with possibly a book club, a class, or a chance to work on a hobby with others to learn new hobbies and get to know each other! She is full of ideas to bring the community together!

Her hours for now will be Thursdays from 4pm to 8pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. There will also be a Grand Opening coming up, so watch the Facebook and Instagram pages for more info, and make a plan, grab some friends, and check out Wanamingo's newest retail store! And be sure to tell her Cheri sent you! Happy Shopping! Christmas is only a breath away!!!
