Youth from Goodhue, Dodge, and Olmsted Counties are developing skills, confidence, and leadership through the 4-H Shooting Sports program. Guided by certified volunteer instructors, participants receive hands-on training in several disciplines, including archery, air rifle, air pistol, trap shooting, .22 rifle, muzzleloading, and tomahawk throwing.
This year, 30 youth from the tri-county area represented their local programs at the Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Event in Alexandria, Minnesota. Among them, nine individuals and two teams earned medals for their achievements — a proud accomplishment reflecting their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
The program emphasizes safety, responsibility, and personal growth while introducing youth to a wide range of outdoor and shooting disciplines. In addition to the competition events, participants also enjoy animal calling, the wildlife skill-a-thon, and cast iron cooking, all of which promote teamwork, leadership, and an appreciation for conservation and the outdoors.
The 4-H Shooting Sports program is made possible through the generous support of community partners, including the Bellechester Legion, the Mazeppa Lions Club, and the NRA Foundation. Their contributions help provide equipment, training opportunities, and educational materials that ensure youth can safely and successfully participate in the program.
