Faribault’s River Bend Nature Center hosts a Winter Gear Swap from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, an event in which community members are asked to bring clean, gently-used winter apparel and recreational gear they no longer use and are able take home gear others have donated.
The event is being held in partnership with Rice County Environmental Services and Minnesota GreenCorps.
This event takes place simultaneously with River Bend’s Bagels & Birds gathering and will be immediately followed by Storytime with a Naturalist.
Community members are invited to participate in both the swap and River Bend’s nature events. Participants in the swap will be asked to check in, but no direct exchange is required.
“Rice County is excited to organize swaps like this one which encourage the use of secondhand items and discourage the unnecessary purchase of new items – both of which help reduce waste in our community,” said Edie Meehan, Rice County’s Minnesota GreenCorps member.
Acceptable items include all winter apparel in good condition: jackets, hats, boots, ice skates, snowshoes, sleds and skis. Damaged and/or or broken items, helmets and weapons should will not be accepted at the swap. Visit Rice County’s website -- www.ricecountymn.gov/806/Community-Swaps -- for more information.
Cannot make the event but interested in donating items prior to Nov. 7? Contact Edie Meehan at 507-332-6113 or elizabeth.meehan@ricecountymn.gov for assistance.
River Bend Nature Center is located at 1000 Rustad Road, Faribault.
